CHAPTER 8 : NORTHERN EUROPE EXPERIENCE WITH EYOBUS – DENMARK: COPENHAGEN

Hello, travel-lovers! On this leg of our Northern Europe journey, we’ve reached Denmark… the southernmost of the Scandinavian countries. It’s the smallest nation in Scandinavia, bordered by Sweden, Norway, and Germany. With its rich culture, deep history, and vibrant, colourful cities, Denmark charmed us from the moment we arrived. And of course, it’s also the birthplace of LEGO… meaning Legoland is a paradise not just for kids, but for us adults too!

Copenhagen is a city where modern life and history live side by side. Here, we wandered through its streets, got lost on purpose, and experienced moments straight out of a fairytale. Come along, let’s dive into the heart of this captivating city.

Places to Visit in Copenhagen

National Museum of Denmark

Our first stop in Copenhagen was the National Museum. From the Stone Age to the Vikings, from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance, this museum is a true time-travel experience through Denmark’s past. We could have spent the entire day here, and every moment was worth it.

Nyhavn – The New Harbor

Nyhavn feels like the heartbeat of the city! Colourful houses lined up along the canal, small boats gently swaying on the water, cafés full of people enjoying a drink with a view… we felt like we had stepped straight into a storybook.

And here’s a fun detail: Hans Christian Andersen lived in Nyhavn for 18 years! Make sure to check out house number 20. We took plenty of photos here and also joined a canal tour a fantastic experience.

The Little Mermaid

One of Copenhagen’s most iconic symbols, The Little Mermaid statue, is inspired by Andersen’s famous fairytale. Small but striking, she sits on the rocks at Langelinje Pier. We stood there for a while, watching the water and the atmosphere around us…no wonder she has become such a beloved symbol of the city.

Tivoli Gardens

Since 1843, Tivoli Gardens has been one of Copenhagen’s most magical spots. We visited in the late afternoon, and as the lights turned on, it felt like stepping into a fairytale. With 28 roller coasters and countless fun attractions, we let our inner children run wild.

Christiania – The Freetown

For a completely different experience, we visited Christiania. Established in 1971 by a group of hippies, it’s a self-governing community right in the middle of the city. Its colorful streets and creative spaces kept us wandering for hours. The atmosphere is unlike any other part of Copenhagen.

Amalienborg Palace

We visited Amalienborg Palace, home of Queen Margrethe II, and watched the changing of the guard at noon. With its four royal buildings arranged around an octagonal square, the palace offers a magnificent sight. Watching the ceremony felt like stepping into a living piece of history.

Rundetaarn – The Round Tower

Built in the 17th century, Rundetaarn is one of Europe’s oldest observatories. We climbed the spiral ramp (209 meters!) and were rewarded with panoramic views of Copenhagen and its harbor. A bit tiring, yes, but absolutely worth it.

Frederiksborg Castle

Located in Hillerød, north of Copenhagen, Frederiksborg Castle amazed us with its size and baroque gardens. The train ride took about 45 minutes, and arriving in this peaceful town felt like entering a different world. Visiting the castle was like stepping into a fairytale far away from the bustle of the city.

The Six Forgotten Giants

Just outside the city, we met The Six Forgotten Giants…giant wooden sculptures created by artist Thomas Dambo. Exploring the forest paths and disovering each giant felt playful and magical. It’s also a fantastic spot for photography!

• The Royal Library – impressive modern architecture and a historic book collection
• Copenhagen Botanical Garden – beautiful even in cold weather
• Royal Danish Theatre – perfect for those who love culture and the arts

• Dyrehaven (Deer Park) – a peaceful forest walk among free-roaming deer
• Bakken – the world’s oldest amusement park, where nature meets fun
• Strøget Street – Europe’s longest pedestrian street, ideal for shopping and sightseeing
• Rosenborg Castle – home to royal jewels and historical treasures
• Kronborg Castle – the legendary setting of Shakespeare’s Hamlet

Copenhagen, with its fairytale streets, historic palaces, and lively modern spirit, left us with unforgettable memories.

Now we’re heading a little further south...leaving the Baltic Sea behind and making our way to Germany’s vibrant port city, Hamburg. With its harbors, canals, and energetic city life, Hamburg promises a striking contrast to Copenhagen’s calm atmosphere. Our bags are packed and we’re ready to explore the lively streets of Hamburg!

 

BÖLÜM 8: EYOBUS İLE KUZEY AVRUPA DENEYİMİ - DANIMARKA: KOPENHAG

Merhaba gezisever dostlar! Kuzey Avrupa yolculuğumuzda bu sefer en güneydeki İskandinav ülkesi Danimarka’dayız. Burası hem İskandinavya’nın en küçük ülkesi hem de güneyde İsveç, Norveç ve Almanya ile komşu. Kültürü, tarihi ve rengarenk şehirleriyle bizi büyülediği gibi, Lego’nun doğduğu yer olarak da dünya çapında ünlü. Eğer Legoland’e giderseniz, sadece çocuklar değil biz yetişkinler de kendimizi kaybediyoruz!

Kopenhag, hem modern hem de tarih dolu bir şehir. Biz burada hem sokaklarda kaybolduk hem de masalsı anlar yaşadık. Gelin, birlikte şehrin kalbine doğru yol alalım.

Kopenhag’da Gezilecek Yerler

Danimarka Ulusal Müzesi

Kopenhag’a gelir gelmez ilk durağımız Danimarka Ulusal Müzesi oldu. Taş Çağı’ndan Vikinglere, Orta Çağ’dan Rönesans’a kadar Danimarka tarihini gözler önüne seren bu müze, tam bir zaman yolculuğu. Biz burada tüm günü geçirecekmiş gibi hissettik ama her saniye buna değerdi.

Nyhavn – Yeni Liman

Nyhavn, şehrin kalbi gibi! Sıra sıra dizilmiş renkli binalar, kanalda küçük sandallar, kafelerde oturup elinizde bir içkiyle manzaranın tadını çıkarmak… Biz burada kendimizi masal kitaplarının içinde gibi hissettik.

Üstelik burası Hans Christian Andersen’in 18 yıl yaşadığı yer! Özellikle 20 numaralı bina mutlaka görülmeli. Biz Nyhavn’da hem fotoğraf çektik hem de kanal turuna katıldık; gerçekten harika bir deneyim.

Deniz Kızı Heykeli

Kopenhag’ın simgelerinden biri olan Deniz Kızı Heykeli, Andersen’in ünlü masalından ilham alıyor. Küçücük ama etkileyici bu heykel Langelinje Pier’de sizi bekliyor. Biz orada durup bir süre masalın içinde kaybolduk ve etrafı izledik; gerçekten şehrin sembolü olmuş.

Tivoli Bahçeleri

1843’ten beri Kopenhag’ın kalbinde yer alan Tivoli Bahçeleri, şehrin ruhunu hissettirmek için harika bir nokta. Biz buraya akşam üstü gittik ve ışıkların altında kendimizi adeta bir peri masalının ortasında hissettik. 28 farklı roller coaster ve eğlenceli etkinliklerle çocuk gibi eğlendik.

Christiania Özerk Bölgesi

Biraz farklı bir deneyim için Christiania’yı ziyaret ettik. 1971’de bir grup hippi tarafından kurulan bu bölge, şehrin ortasında kendi kurallarına sahip bir yaşam sunuyor. Renkli sokakları, sanat dolu alanlarıyla biz burada saatlerce dolaştık ve şehrin diğer yanından tamamen farklı bir atmosferi keşfettik.

Amalienborg Sarayı

Kraliçe Margrethe II’nin evi olan Amalienborg Sarayı’nı gördük ve öğlen 12’deki nöbet değişim törenine şahit olduk. Sarayın dört farklı binası, sekizgen meydanı ve heykelleriyle tam bir görsel şölen! Biz bu töreni izlerken tarihin ve geleneklerin içinde adeta yolculuk yaptık.

Rundetaarn Gözlem Kulesi

17. yüzyılda inşa edilmiş olan Rundetaarn, Avrupa’nın en eski gözlem evlerinden biri. Spiral rampayı çıkarak tepeye vardığımızda Kopenhag limanının ve şehrin panoramik manzarasını seyrettik. 209 metrelik rampayı dönerken hem yorgun düştük hem de manzaranın tadını çıkardık.

Frederiksborg Kalesi

Kopenhag’ın kuzeyinde Hillerød’de bulunan Frederiksborg Kalesi, büyüklüğü ve barok bahçeleriyle bizi büyüledi. Trenle 45 dakikada ulaştığımız bu küçük kasabada dolaşmak ve ardından kaleye adım atmak, şehrin karmaşasından uzak bir masal dünyasına girmek gibiydi.

Unutulmuş Altı Dev

Şehrin biraz dışında yer alan The Six Forgotten Giants ile tanıştık. Sanatçı Thomas Dambo’nun dev figürleri arasında dolaşmak hem eğlenceliydi hem de fotoğraf için harika bir alan sundu. Biz burada adeta devlerle oyun oynuyormuş gibi hissettik!

Diğer Öne Çıkan Noktalar

• Kraliyet Kütüphanesi: Modern mimarisi ve 17. yüzyıldan kalma kitap koleksiyonlarıyla etkileyici.

• Kopenhag Botanik Bahçesi: Soğuk havada bile renkli çiçekler arasında yürümek çok keyifliydi.

• Kopenhag Kraliyet Tiyatrosu: Tarihi ve sanatı aynı anda yaşamak isteyenler için harika bir durak.

• Dyrehaven (Geyik Parkı): Ormanda geyiklerle yürüyüş yaparken şehrin içinde doğal bir kaçış noktası bulduk.

• Bakken: Dünyanın en eski eğlence parkında hem doğayı hem eğlenceyi bir arada yaşadık.

• Stroget Caddesi: Avrupa’nın en uzun yayalaştırılmış caddesinde alışveriş ve tarihi yapıları görmek çok keyifliydi.

• Rosenborg Kalesi: Kraliyet mücevherlerini ve tarihi koleksiyonlarıyla Kopenhag tarihine ışık tutuyor.

• Kronborg Kalesi (Hamlet’in Kalesi): Shakespeare’in Hamlet’ine ev sahipliği yapan bu kalede tarih ve edebiyat iç içe.

Kopenhag, hem masalsı sokakları hem tarih dolu sarayları hem de modern yaşamı ile bizde unutulmaz anılar bıraktı.  

Şimdi rotamızı biraz daha güneye çeviriyoruz; Baltık Denizi’ni geride bırakıp Almanya’nın canlı liman şehri Hamburg’a doğru yola çıkıyoruz. Limanları, kanalları ve hareketli şehir hayatıyla Hamburg, Kopenhag’ın sakinliğiyle tezat bir deneyim sunacak. Biz hazırız, valizlerimizi kapattık ve yeni keşifler için Hamburg sokaklarına adım atıyoruz!

CHAPTER 7 : NORTHERN EUROPE EXPERIENCE WITH EYOBUS – NORWAY: FLAM, BERGEN & STAVENGER

Hello, travel-lovers! On this leg of our Northern Europe journey with Eyobus, we find ourselves in Norway — a country that wins hearts not only with its stunning natural beauty, but also with its peaceful cities and safe, calm way of life. Even the air here seems to make you happier; we instantly understood why Norway ranks so high on global happiness lists.

This part of our route takes us through Flåm, Bergen, and Stavanger. Come along as we explore these cities where nature and history blend perfectly!

Flåm: A Tiny Paradise in the Heart of the Fjords

Flåm is a small village in Norway’s Sogn og Fjordane region, surrounded by steep valleys and untouched nature. The moment we arrived, we felt as though we had stepped into a fairytale.
Nærøyfjord — a branch of Sognefjord, the world’s second-longest and second-deepest fjord — is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an absolute must-see while you're here.

Flåm’s world-famous railway is another unforgettable experience. We didn’t forget to sit on the right side of the train — the views were absolutely breathtaking!

What we did in Flåm:
• Hiked through mountain trails and enjoyed pure, untouched nature
• Captured tons of landscape photos — it’s a paradise for nature photographers
• Visited the Flåm Railway Museum (free entry, plus a great souvenir shop)
• Joined a boat tour on Nærøyfjord and were mesmerized by the fjord’s magic

Flåm is truly one of Norway’s hidden gems — time simply flies here.

Bergen: The City of Seven Mountains and Fjords

After leaving Flåm, we reached Bergen, Norway’s second-largest city on the west coast, embraced by mountains and fjords. The historic Bryggen Wharf, with its colorful wooden buildings, stone streets, and sea views, made us feel like we were walking inside a painting.

Our favorite stops in Bergen:
• Took the Fløibanen funicular to admire the panoramic view of the seven mountains and fjords
• Rode the Ulriken cable car to the top and captured amazing photos

• Visited Gamlehaugen, the King’s official residence — full of aristocratic charm
• Explored Bergen Cathedral, both for its history and memorable evening concerts
• Joined fjord tours (about 3–3.5 hours) to discover the stunning natural surroundings

Exploring Bergen felt like wandering through a fairytale city — every corner held a new surprise.

Stavanger: History, Oil, and Nature

Our final stop was Stavanger, Norway’s fourth-largest city, where modern life blends beautifully with historical charm. The city boasts one of Europe’s largest collections of wooden houses, many dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries.

Our experiences in Stavanger:

• Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock): A 604-meter cliff with a jaw-dropping view — even without a fear of heights, the scene left us breathless!

• Lysefjord: We admired spectacular landscapes on a boat tour
• Explored Stavanger Cathedral and the Old Stavanger district
• Visited the Norwegian Petroleum Museum and the Maritime Museum
• Relaxed with a short break at Sola Beach

Stavanger is easily one of Norway’s most captivating cities, offering both history and incredible natural beauty.

BÖLÜM 7: EYOBUS İLE KUZEY AVRUPA DENEYİMİ - NORVEC: FLAM, BERGEN & STAVENGER

Merhaba gezisever dostlar! Eyobus ile Kuzey Avrupa yolculuğumuzun bu durağında karşımızda Norveç var. Burası sadece doğal güzellikleriyle değil, huzurlu şehirleri ve güvenli yaşamıyla da gönlümüzü çalacak bir ülke. Norveç’in havası bile sanki bizi mutlu ediyor; dünya mutluluk sıralamasında üstlerde yer almasının boşuna olmadığını hemen fark ettik.

Bu bölümde rotamızı Flam, Bergen ve Stavanger’a çevirdik. Hadi, doğanın ve tarihin iç içe geçtiği bu şehirlere birlikte bakalım!

Flam: Fiyortların Kalbinde Küçük Bir Cennet

Flam, Norveç’in Sogn og Fjordane bölgesinde, dar vadilerle çevrili minik bir köy. Buraya ilk adımımızı attığımızda sanki masalın içine düşmüş gibi hissettik. Dünyanın en derin ve uzun ikinci fiyordu olan Sognefjord’un bir kolu Nærøyfjord, UNESCO Dünya Mirası Listesi’nde ve buraya gelmişken mutlaka görmemiz gereken bir yer.

Flam’ın ünlü demir yolu hattı da bir başka deneyim. Tren yolculuğu yaparken sağ tarafta oturmayı ihmal etmedik; manzara gerçekten nefes kesiciydi!

Biz Flam’da neler yaptık:

• Dağ patikalarında yürüyüş yapıp, el değmemiş doğayla baş başa kaldık

• Doğa fotoğrafçıları için cennet olan manzaralarda bol bol fotoğraf çektik

• Flam Demir Yolu Müzesi’ni ziyaret ettik ve trenlerin tarihine tanık olduk (giriş ücretsiz, hediyelik eşya dükkanı da var)

• Nærøyfjord’da gemi turuna katıldık ve fiyordun büyüsüne kapıldık

Flam gerçekten Norveç’in saklı cennetlerinden biri; burada zamanın nasıl geçtiğini anlamadık.

Bergen: Yedi Dağın ve Fiyortların Şehri

Flam’dan yola çıktıktan sonra vardığımız Bergen, Norveç’in batı kıyısında, dağlar ve fiyortlarla çevrili ikinci büyük şehri. Burası bize sanki renkli bir tabloyu andırdı; eski liman Bryggen’in tarihi binaları, yürüdüğümüz taş sokaklar ve deniz manzarası bizi büyüledi.

Bergen’de bizim favori duraklarımız:

• Fløibanen Teleferiği ile şehrin üstüne çıkarak yedi dağın ve fiyortların panoramik manzarasını izledik

• Ulriken Teleferiği ile zirveye çıkarak fotoğraflar çektik

• Gamlehaugen, Kral’ın resmi ikametgahı; aristokrat havasıyla mutlaka görülmeli

• Bergen Katedrali, hem tarihi hem de gece konserleriyle deneyimlenmeye değerdi

• Ve tabii ki fiyort turlarına katıldık, çevredeki doğal güzellikleri keşfettik (yaklaşık 3-3,5 saat)

Bergen’i gezerken kendimizi bir masal şehrinde hissettik; her köşe ayrı bir sürpriz sunuyordu.

Stavanger: Tarih, Petrol ve Doğa

Son durağımız Stavanger oldu. Burası Norveç’in dördüncü büyük şehri ve hem modern hem tarihi dokuyu bir arada sunuyor. Avrupa’nın en büyük ahşap ev koleksiyonlarından birine sahip ve bu evlerin çoğu 18. ve 19. yüzyıldan kalma.

Stavanger’de bizim deneyimlerimiz:

• Preikestolen (Vaiz Kayası): 604 metre yüksekliğinde uçurum manzarasıyla büyülendik. Yükseklik korkumuz olmasa da manzara karşısında nefesimiz kesildi!

• Lysefjord: Tekneyle geçerken doğa harikası manzaralara hayran kaldık

• Stavanger Katedrali ve Old Stavanger bölgesinde tarihi keşifler yaptık

CHAPTER 6 : NORTHERN EUROPE EXPERIENCE WITH EYOBUS – SWEDEN: STOCKHOLM

Hello, travel-lovers! Our journey through the cool winds of Northern Europe brings us to a brand-new stop: Stockholm. As we sailed away from Helsinki and glided through the calm waters of the Baltic Sea, colorful houses, slender towers, and islands connected by graceful bridges slowly appeared on the horizon, whispering that we were approaching Stockholm.
Sweden’s capital is also the country’s hub of culture, art, politics, and economy… in other words, a true “northern capital”!

Spread across 14 islands, the city immediately captivated us with its historic streets and elegant touches of modern life. Gamla Stan’s ancient stones blend seamlessly with Djurgarden’s deep-blue nature, history and modernity walking hand in hand.

Stockholm: First Steps in the City of Islands

With its fjord-like canals, the shores of Lake Mälaren, colorful façades, and spotless streets, Stockholm gives real meaning to the words “clean, orderly, and peaceful.” The city is both deeply historic and incredibly modern and best of all, it makes you feel as if you’ve known it forever.

Stockholm City Museum: Stadsmuseet

Our first stop was the Stockholm City Museum, the keeper of the city’s memory. Seeing how Stockholm transformed from a small trading town into a global metropolis was fascinating.

We explored models of old Stockholm, examined everyday objects, and admired the city’s architectural evolution through the centuries.

Gamla Stan: The Heart of Stockholm

If you’re searching for Stockholm’s soul, look no further than Gamla Stan. Founded in 1252, this Old Town is a magical maze of narrow alleys, colorful buildings, historic squares, and a fairytale-like medieval atmosphere.

Here, we:
• Visited the Nobel Museum and learned about Alfred Nobel’s story
• Explored the Parliament Building, Stockholm Cathedral, and the Royal Palace
• Wandered around the picturesque Stortorget Square and sipped our coffee at the famous Chokladkoppen
• Discovered a hidden gem "The Nobel Library" and tasted the iconic Nobel ice cream (it really does stay on your palate!)

Gamla Stan is best explored on foot; we spent hours uncovering treasures on every street.

Skansen Open-Air Museum: The World’s First Open-Air Museum

On Djurgarden Island, we visited the Skansen Open-Air Museum. It’s not just a museum but a large cultural park combining a traditional village setting with a small zoo. We loved seeing historical Swedish houses, traditional clothing, craftsmen, and scenes from everyday life.

Djurgarden Island: Stockholm’s Cultural Center

Djurgarden is truly the cultural heart of the city. Just a 9-minute ferry ride away, the island is home to:

• ABBA Museum
• Vasa Museum
• Skansen Open-Air Museum
• Gröna Lund Amusement Park

and many more attractions. We enjoyed both the museums and the peaceful walking paths surrounded by nature.

Vasa Museum: A Treasure From the 17th Century

The Vasa ship sank on its maiden voyage in 1628 and was recovered in 1961. Inside the museum, we explored the ship’s story, daily life on board, and the artistic details of the era. The ship itself is breathtaking, we lost track of time here!

Stockholm City Hall: Home of the Nobel Banquet

Located on Kungsholmen Island, Stockholm City Hall is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Every year on December 10th, the Nobel Prize Banquet is held here. We joined a guided tour and climbed the 106-meter tower for a stunning panoramic view of Stockholm... absolutely worth it!

Colorful Streets and Squares of Stockholm

• Västerlånggatan: One of the oldest streets in Gamla Stan, full of cafés and souvenir shops
• Stortorget: A picture-perfect historic square... ideal for photography
• Järntorget: The second-oldest square with a lively atmosphere and cozy cafés
• Tyska Kyrkan (German Church): Gothic architecture and a striking interior

Shopping in Stockholm

For shopping, our favorite spots were Drottninggatan, Gamla Stan, Hamngatan, and the Gallerian Mall.
In summer, Skansen’s craft stalls also offer beautiful handmade items.
